Welcome to our home on the web.
Our organization is comprised of volunteers from all walks of life, who donate their time, talents, labor and money to assist in saving the lives of Basset Hounds.  As a non profit organization, we focus on the pure bred basset hound who may end up in animal shelters, humane societies, or may be the victim of animal abuse, neglect, perhaps the basset hound was just unwanted, a situation beyond the control of an owner may land a basset hound in a "rescue" - or just being misunderstood.  Each hound has their own story and our volunteers pick hounds up from shelters and transport them to our rehabilitation center, to the vets, help socialize, care for them, feed them, groom them, work with them on leash training, house training etc.
About The Hounds
We know basset hounds.  Its as simple and as complex as that statement. Being a dwarf breed, with the heaviest bone density of canines, the basset is not for everyone.  Those of us who volunteer in basset rescue do so because we can help the hounds we come in contact with, help them recover from health issues, homelessness and behavioral problems.  Once a hound is rehabilitated and properly socialized, we also know how to find people seeking a basset hound, and help them integrate them into their homes.
Reasons for Rescue
Why does a basset hound need rescue? Unfortunately, nothing is as cute as a basset hound puppy. Unfortunately they grow up to be large breed hounds, scent hounds who focus their entire being on that wonderful nose which ultimately leads them into trouble.  Hounds come to us due to many reasons - wandering away and becoming lost, not properly socialized and taken from their littermates before 10-12 weeks of age can cause serious behavioral problems in a new home which a family may be unwilling to work with, stubborn as a hound - obedience training takes complete dedication and constant attention, many people these days are loosing homes and being forced to move into multi family dwelling situations which do not allow for a canine companion over 40 pounds.  The list is very long, each hound has a story and has a set of needs specific to the hound. By performing basset hound rescue from a basset hound specific rehabilitation and socialization center, we offer many volunteer programs which will have you hands on with the hounds, youth education programs designed to assist in today's youth learning canine companion education.Come join us and discover the rewards of rescuing a basset hound!
